I use "WTF" because everytime I show Lady Fenrir the gas receit, she says "WTF?" Just my personal preference, I drink beer, Fenrir get's champagne!

Our little 2.2 runs just fine on 87. Depending on what engine I build I might use higher if it needs it. Unless I build something with really high compression I don't see a need for 93. The only car we consistently run 93 in is a Northstar Cadillac.

There used to be research that said you could raise the octane above 93 by burning a mix of hald 87 and half 91. I never tried it to check performance but the formula all looked right.

My understanding of mixing one part 87 with one part 91 would give you 89. Did I misunderstand how gas pumps work?

If you want 93 octane why not just buy 93 octane?

CH...Some states do not sell 93 octane....Arizona is one of them. I'm not sure a 2.4 NEEDS 93 octane.....89 or 91 maybe.

Hmmm, that's the way I looked at it also.

"Song" can you elaborate??? And, does it come from reliable sources. I remember some time back the idea of using 1 gallon of diesel with 15 gallons of unleaded was suggested , to increase fuel mileage.....That proved incorrect, except in some very rare cases.

Duh! My dyslexia kicked in... Sorry. I knew what I was thinking but it didn't quite make it to my fingertips...

You guys are right. Mixing gas is linear and would just be an average of the two. So if I mix half a tank of 93 (premium around here) and half a tank of 89 (regular), I would get a 90-91 octane, depending on what was still in the tank. Changing the ratios of each would change the octane rating. You can get more octane for less money by mixing, but is it worth the hassle? Not likely in our little engines that run fine on 89.

Weird, I would have thought they sell it everywhere. We used to have two locations of Delta Sonic around here that sold 100 octane. I went to both of them and they no longer carry it. I'm sure my HHR would run fine on 91 like the manual says but if I love my vehicle why not give it the best.

Well at least with the mix of 87 and 93 (both options for the poll) you could come up with 90, which is another option for the poll.

Yeah you bet, and I'm not arguing the point. It's your choice.

And, I just remembered, we have 3 locations (that I know of) that sell "racing" fuel, which is dispensed from a defined BLUE pump....reportedly 94-96 octane. These locations provide support for the real racing people .....classic muscles, some Porches, etc.

Ommmm, we have a top premium choice of 91.
