Fun in your HHR.

Last fri tried to drift it thru a snowed parking lot...found I had to really crank the wheel to get the rear to react(no brake) on stock tires too. Thought it would be easier they way some talk about the tires here. They do suck from a dead stop though....

The key is to give the wheel a quick flick of opposite lock. Say you want to drift to the right, give the wheel a quick sharp input to the left and then snap it to the right. If you get it right the tail will rotate just as nice as you please, get it wrong and around you go. This takes tons of practice and its harder on some vehicles. HHR's have a low polar moment of inertia, which means they don't like to rotate quickly about their axis. The flick technique was developed by a guy called Eric Carlsson who is one of the best if not the best rally drivers in Europe. By using a flick technique you can overcome the natural understeer in a front drive vehicle and get it to mimic a rear drive car. Really technical stuff for just hanging the tail out huh?

Mamma decided she wanted some pics this a.m. of the new snow so...off we went... while she was snaping I went playing and did some e brake 180's and snap turns...only thing I dont like, no rear wheel kick on demand, you finish the turn and try to get back in the throttle and its not there, just torque spin....sigh.no throttle controlled slides.Too many years on the dirt tracks I guess, spoiled!
