Years ago, vinyl tops, opera windows and bumper guards were regarded by way too many as looking good. Before that is was fake dual exhausts (like today's fake duals, dual exhaust tips and oversized fugly exhaust tips but not actually connected to anything), squirrel tails, dual antennae with one being non-functional, suicide knobs and other outright stupidity. Peer pressure is tough. How many of you out there REALLY think spoilers look sporty? You are kidding each other! Reminds me of the story "the Emperor's New Clothes". Each generation finds new ways of pissing off and actually disgusting the previous folks. Look at the new Mustang GTs. They have a fugly spoiler (yes, I KNOW that is redundant) with a delete option. Ever seen one w/o the spoiler? CLEAN! That is why the Bullitt version is not available with that stupid thing at all. This is not a personal pref item. Spoilers are FUGLY!!! Hell, why not put V-8 emblems on, too? Wouldn't that look sporty and make everyone think you can go 160 with your spoilered four cylinder?

Danko, why so shy? If you got an opinion share it. Joking

Have to agree - spoilers are simply a fashion statement

Interesting to me was why did they stop making them an option, my wife kept asking me while we were looking for our 08 and then I researched and found....not an option.

Danko has always been shy about sharing his opinions....... I guess they (Spoilers) are a fashion statment...thats why there are so many of them.......I know.....As I made and sold so many of them to SSR owners.....(Wolfie Wings)..... Everyone to ther own likes.....It's to bad that some feel they have to badmouth everything they don't like. WW

Actually the spoiler does perform a pretty good job of altering the airflow on the back.

All cars tend to act as a wing. Since the air has to travel farther over the car than under it, it creates a low pressure area at the back of the vehicle. This is why the rear windows on SUV's, CUV's and wagons get so dirty.

The spoiler that is used by the HHR and many othe SUV/CUV designs breaks the turbulent circular low pressure area directly at the back of the vehicle and tends to elongate the low pressure area into a more suitable shape. This reduction in turbulence along with the increased area of the low pressure area provides a more slippery shape for less drag, and also pulls the air upwards further back behind the car so there is less dirt buildup on the rear glass.

I think that is somewhat so......In my own case .....I have noticed the the spoiler on my HHR/SS seems to works better at this, than the one that was on my HHR 2007 LT, as the airflow is routed differently....so less dirt buildup........WW

WimpWuss, but then YOU just badmouthed something YOU don't like ....... me! Why do that? Your insecurities are showing. This is about spoilers and should not be antiforum member(s). Stop that or at least spell properly? ("..TOO bad.. not ..to bad.."). As far as "so many of them", I again refer to the book "The Emperor's New Clothes". Large numbers (mob rule) do not make something right. Jimmy Carter got a lot of votes, remember? Spoilers only make sense over 160 mph and very few look right. At least the HHR spoiler has no daylight showing.
