My thought as well. Where there is a will, there is a way. Good Luck on that haul.

If you can get most of it inside, use a rope to tie down the hatch.

What Ive learned from the past, owning other hatchbacks (pt cruiser, Fit) is ALWAYS carry bungie cords !

Lightbulb XL = extra load rear tires

XL tires on the rear and an assortment of rope, bungees, and tie downs in the storage areas.
Never know what you'll find on the road.
When I first saw this thread I thought he was looking for a mattress size to sleep in the back not the complete futon frame and all.

A few years ago I was talking to a customer about putting 8 foot lumber in my HHR and that I could shut the hatch and it didn't hit on either end. He pause and stated that he had a full sized Ford Explorer and he couldn't do that.
