I have this same unit Garmon Street Pilot 330. I've had it for three years and just updated the maps ($69) It is an obsolete model now, but works fine. I have three other cars so it gets suction cupped to the windshield. I took it with me last year when I flew to California and rented a car. They wanted $14/day for a GPS unit. It really came in handy as I hadn't been in California since 1972 and lots changed. I drove all over from San Diego, San Gabrial, San Bernadino etc. Lots of new roads in the past 36 years. The detour function was great to getting out of LA traffic jams/grid lock.

I have used it to go from Key West, Florida, Freeport, Maine, Madison, Wi, Kansas City and points in between. I took it on the Hot Rod Power Tour this year to get me around the many unfamiliar areas.

I also keep the road atlas in the car with me incase it loses signal, which it does occasionally.

Even if you miss a turn the units will recalculate the route to your destination. I saw no need for a real fancy $300 GPS as mine will say turn left in .6 miles rather than turn left .6 miles on Main Street. I believe in the KISS theory.."keep it simple stupid"

I have a couple different models of the Garmin Nuvi. I love them both.
I mounted between the vents which makes it convenient to type in addresses, etc.
Also hard wired into the car so that it comes on automatically when started and turns off when ignition is turned off.

I kinda did the same, except I hard wired in a lighter socket extension. That way I can still take it out and use it someplace else and always have the cord with me. Plus a lot cheaper that buying the hard wire cord or cutting up mine.

The cool things for road trips:
* it'll give the speed limit on any road your on.
* it calculates your gas mileage, gas cost, CO2 emissions!, ave mph, max mph, time moving, time stopped
* it tells you how far you've gone and how far until you get there, and the time you will arrive.
* it tells you your current elevation (awesome when in the mountains!)
* you can pull up a list of the nearest gas stations, hotels, rest stops, etc.
* since I was camping in the rocky mountains, I uploaded a topo map of coloardo and used it as a handheld for hiking. Set the moving speed to pedestrian, and you'll see how fast you hike, stop time, distance etc.

The dashboard screen is cool looking..

If you like gagets, you will like GPS.

/end infomercial.
I'm liking this one! And I do like my gadgets!

Glad you like it.

Some how I never have a hard time finding a place to eat or a Walmart. Most of them are all near interstates. It is a simple fromula.

I personally have no use for them. They just don't give me answers to any of the questions I have.

I don't need the ETA as I can already tell you that from Michigan to Florida. and NY to St Louis. Done it enough times to know. MPH digital is on my scan meter. The MPG is on my DIC. Walmarts and Wendys are like Cow Pies in a pasture along the interstates. CO2 levels just ask me if I care about that one LOL!

Not everyone is as blessesd with directions and they are good for them. As for me it is just something I done need. The money is better spent on my I phone where it gives me more info on about anything. I can add a Tom Tom to it if I ever feel the need. As of now no need here.

Cool GPS in the box...

I saw a GPS unit mounted in the upper / center glove box on a "automatic" hinge made for a cabnit door. Fold down when not in use. Open door and GPS rises up...Pretty cool set up...My $130.00 Garmin NUVA/205 is hardwired and stuck to the wind screen....

The expense of a stand alone GPS is not the unit but the updates that you pay extra for.

About a year ago I got a smart-phone with GPS and will never buy a stand alone GPS again!

Currently have a Palm-Pre. It has Sprint Navigation AND Google Maps!
