Magellen Roadmate after my MIO died. I use it on all my work trips, saves time when you pre enter the address and only have to go from airport to customer, motel and back..

Yes, the price has come way down, but with the new phones, why even pay for the unit let alone the updates....and if you look at the fine print you get the updates only as long as the model series you have is supported. I had a discontinued Garmin....no more updates.

I had a friend call me because they couldn't get the maps to update on theirs. come to find out it was something with the unit

they exchanged it for a new one and then worked fine.

like anything you buy, there are some that have trouble

they get sent back and repaired then resold as refurbs.

sometimes people just buy them, change their mind, return them to get their cash back, so they might get sent back for repackaging and a checkup.

I would not invest in too much expense in a stand alone GPS. The cars are just now coming with on board computers. It will not be too long you will be able to pull up maps, satalite photo's and Google drive by video.

I am not sure how much new info will be adapted to this but the link will render GPS old as the 8 track.

Just get one that does the job and as soon as 5 years you will have many new options.

Depends on where you want to go.

We asked GM's Onstar where the Richard Childress GM Goodwrench racing shop was in NC a couple years ago. That one threw them for a loss.

We found it on our own after their failure to have even a clue.

I have a buddy who has a Dodge with built in GPS..Updates $250. You can get a stand alone GPS for lots less than that and since it is portable, I can switch it to any car I drive.

That is the same location that I have my TomTom located in. I run my wire over the dash hump instead of to the left of it. that way it doesn't get in the steering column.
