That Gas Mileage topic again-trip to Florida

Guys,

We took our 09 2.4 automatic HHR to my Mom's for Christmas. The trip was about 2500 miles including short trips and lots of highway miles on route 95.

Here's what I have learned: 1) weight matters-we hauled a bunch of stuff back and forth and it took it's toll on MPG.

2) Speed matters..driving 65-70 we got as much as 29.3 mpg, at 75-90 it got 25-26mpg.

3) The octane of gas doesn't seem to matter and the manual does not specify premium (no sticker inside the gas door like my Corvette either) as I had thought. 10 % ethenol may explain why the mileage is down compared to an earlier trip down route 95.

We are still really pleased with our HHR, it hauls lots of goods and does it with a smooth and tight ride. It is a good car for the money.

Glad to hear Also, depending on when that other trip on Route 95 was you can attribute some to Winter Blend Gas. Not sure if this is the same with ethenol blend though?!?

Over the summer, I made a trip from Miami to Pennsylvania, made it to DC on just half a tank of gas!!

Oh yeah, guess I should also say that I took the Amtrak Autotrain.

I have to travel on many roads with 60-65 mph speed limits to reach interstates heading north. I've gotten up to 30 mpg on those roads. It does pay to slow down!

Happy new year every one I too took a trip to florida from north of Atlanta 80 mph most of the way 25 2 MPG. Last month went to CT. 65 70 MPH got 30 MPG. I guess speed counts.

when i was coming back to indiana from my parents in michigan was the first time i've had to fill up on the trip, i usually can make it under one tank. The DIC was showing that i had pretty much the same amount of fuel left as the tom tom said i had left to go.

The reason for my horrible mileage though was the wind. It was extremely windy n the highway and where i am usually getting 27-30 at the speed i was at i was getting 17-20...

once we got around lansing and not going straight into the wind, things improved, but an hour of driving right into it screwed it all.
