GM breaks off talks with Nissian/Renault

since my original post on the topic garnered zero interest it seems we get to keep our American Heritage and won't become a one world auto owner

Great news Joe. Some things just should be merged and GM is one of them in my opinion.

Soon talks will start between GM and Ford towards a merger.

Then there will only be one US manufacturer left.

Prediction: In 2011, Captain Howdy will become the proud owner of the new Camstang.

Of course I don't understand very much about what was happening with this. I do think that GM missed a very good oppurtunity. This could have made for a good merger/partnership/whatever they were attempting to create. Nissan has become a very exciting car company. They are creating some great, performance oriented cars and have some great technology in their engines and vehicle. Renault is also an excellent European manufacturer. The european design and more importantly engineering is superior to anything else.

I love GM and I worry that GM might be becoming stubborn in the way they make vehicles. If they aren't going to be willing to sign deals with companies that can help them move forward things will turn sour for them.

Things already have turned sour for GM. Last year they lost $10.5 billion.

Here's a link to current sales... not a pretty picture!

I have mixed feelings about that Deb, It WOULD have made them stronger; they are an international presence allready, ie: Germany Opel and the Aussie brand(darn can't remember the brand)... and the mix of technologies would have produced some interesting products.. would it have resulted in the closing of more american plants and outsourcing assembly points OR would more plants have been built here ????Without sounding too nationalistic I just heard a blurb on the local talk radio station asking us to look around the house and see how many products are marked "made in china" I have made the switch back to American autos in the past 8 years .. ohh and I know GM including my beloved HHR are not 100 percent made in America..
In the end it probably would have more positive benefits......

Holden is GMs Aussie brand.

They also have the Vauxhall brand in the UK.
