I have seen other posts from members here that state, if you were to start a thread like this on other forums and bashed the product that those forums are there for, you would be banned and the thread deleted.
I guess we don't have as much censorship here as some people would like to think.
BDUCK23, sorry you were unhappy with your HHR and hopefully your luck will change on your Ford. Because when it comes right down to it, luck is all you have, either bad or good, one of them is going to be your karma on that vehicle no matter who makes it.

I seriously do not think GM is going anywhere. Yeah they are hurting and it may come down to them splitting the brands up or something but going completely under is a far stretch at this point.
As far as getting a bad car from a company, that happens. I am on my 4th GM car in 18 years (first two were used) and all of them went over 100,000 miles with no major problem. My First Buick 1985½ Century T-Type had 260,000 miles on it when it finally was put down because some one rear ended it. My 1988 Z24 had 127,000 on it and that one needed some major work so I sold it. Then I bought a brand New 1998 S10 SS that in the 10 years I had it never had a major problem with it. In fact I think the biggest problem I had with it was the water pump went out at like 70,000 miles. Other than that it had a couple 02 sensors put in it and little things here and there it was a great truck and had 106,000 miles on it. In fact I only sold it because I wanted something with a back seat. My family has had nothing but GM cars in their life since we got the employee option discount so that makes a great sales pitch and for the most part they have been great cars. I have had friends that have had Fords and loved and hated them, and most of my Friends that have had Chrysler products and most have hated them. I have also had friends that have the supposedly reliable Hondas and Toyotas and have had loads of issues. It all depends. The deal breaker for me is the service I get when I do have a problem. My dealer aside from a few situations has always serviced my cars with great care, always had a loaner ready for me if I needed one, and fixed my car right. If you cannot get your car serviced by the dealer you are going to, find another service department.

With any brand it can come down to the luck of the draw. My wife's '80 Toyota pickup was a total hunk of junk but the '87 Toyota Corolla FX that replaced it ran like a Swiss watch for over 300k miles. The two Jeep (XJ) Cherokees I've owned since '88 have been remarkably trouble-free contrary to what some publications say about them in general. Have owned seven Mustangs from the '84 to '08 models and they've also given me little if any trouble. The last GM car I purchased was a '73 Opel that I was very satisfied with and I'm just hoping the HHR I have on order now will give me the same kind of service but there are no guarantees in car ownership of any brand.

My HHR is the first new car I've owned since 79, 13,500 trouble free miles so far. Most of the 60+ cars I've owned in the interim have been well past the 100K mark, with all the Domestics and a couple Imports represented. Most reliable were an 83 Dodge van I got for $100, and a 92 S-15 Jimmy that had 250,000 miles. Had an 81 Mustang that was great until my wife tore it up. Have a 93 Benz that needed $1800 in repairs after a timing chain broke. My son just got a free 76 Blazer that runs good, but rusty as all hell.
Almost bought a 68 Rolls Royce for $4000- the owner was sick of being stranded.

75 Chevy Monza 60k mi blown headgasket (ie POS Vega)
81 231 V6 Camaro 200K mi T-boned in an accident
86 Z28 305 V8 TPI 160k mi scrapped for smog certification issues
94 Firebird Formula 5.7 V8 LT1 120k mi traded in for 2006 HHR
Obviously the 75 was S***t, the next 2 cars were driven hard, then I matured and babied the 94 and the 06. Not bad for 32 years of driving "crappy" POS GM cars

I have owned an '02 prix, an '03 prix, and an '06 prix. I want my '03 back. The '02 was the SE model, needless to say I got my money back. The '03 was LOADED. GT every option. Not sure why i got rid of it, wanted to stand out i suppose. The '06 had tranny problems. The dealer replaced the overdrive and reverse clutch pack. Shifted fine after that but it just rode like a bread wagon. Made one trip to MN and I was looking at the HHR when I was there. Two weeks later I bought the HHR.
