GM Stops building HHR's (Updated)
Because of a strike, GM stopped building the HHR in order to send common parts stateside so that the building of Malibu's can continue.
I'm sure glad I don't have one on order. Our dealer found one for us locally and we pick it up tonight (SS).

I just saw on the local news that American Axel and the UAW are very close to settling.

"The news about Malibu production comes as the automaker cut production at a factory in Mexico that makes the Chevrolet HHR, shifting those parts to U.S. plants, said a person familiar with plant activity."
I didn't know I had a Mexican HHR? No wonder I have 17inch wheels and no tire! Messin with us gringos eh?

Thanks for the info, nice to get.
Got me to wondering about sometimes difficult business decisions that have to be made. Due the American Axle Company labor dispute with General Motors and resulting strike Gm has moved parts allocation from the HHR plant in Mexico and other US plants to the Malibu production line. Makes business sense, more demand for Malibu’s but looks like the Deli Lama and grandma where right, Surrender to the fact that life is unfair (especially if you build HHR’s, Cadillac's, and Buick's).

Ahhhh Ray.....
I must have missed something !!! Where are you getting the idea that American Axle is in a labor dispute with GM????? I was under the impression the dispute (as always) was with the UAW. From the article.....
GM is American Axle's largest customer, accounting for nearly 80% of the Detroit supplier's sales. The UAW launched a strike against American Axle more than seven weeks ago, in the face of the supplier's demands for steep wage and benefit cuts that American Axle says it needs to compete with other U.S. suppliers

I was all set to order my 2LT 5 speed and this happens .(I don't want an '09 with all that additional standard stuff.)My only hope now is that a dealer out there has a lightly equipped one like I want(no sunroof,no extra bags, painted wheels)Was gonna go for the Onstar delete too.

Opps, my bad! Snoop, you’re right and that’s what I think I meant to say but didn’t, mornings are not my best (or any other time). But I think you might agree that no matter who does who the net result is the same………..No HHR’s. This whole union/corporation thing is very hard to relate to for someone living in paradise (and denial) and just causes me stress that I avoid ………. unless of course my Twinkie supplier wobbles

No problem Ray....
Hey you can help me with something related to this.
Wasn't American Axle owned by GM and spun off to eliminate the rising union wage rates they were paying (kind of like Delco)?? Although, GM officially would not admit it
