Good Deal???
You did not say how it was optioned. A base LT1 is 17550 and there is a $2000 rebate now until 5/21. We got a HHR SS down to 21,800 down from 25,950 and that is with the rebate of $2000. See what your local dealer will do. I would never by something sight unseen.

[quote=itschaboykenny;264120]2008 Chevy HHR 1LT with the 2.2 liter. Only 5 thousand miles on the clock. Dealer is asking $16,147 plus a additional $599 for transfer (from Kansas City, KS to Orlando,FL)
That definitely is NOT A GOOD DEAL!! Use the $599 transfer fee for gas money to shop around. You could probably buy a BRAND NEW HHr for close to that amount....with just a little negotiation. But taxes and other charges, commonly paid for a new vehicle, could bring it unexpectedly higher.

I actually worked at that Carmax store in Kansas City (It's actually Merriam, KS). I would usually tell customers NOT to transfer a vehicle that was out of region just because the transfer fee is so high and you have to wait a month for it to come in! You can do a virtual walk-around of the vehicle before you commit to transferring it, but even then $599 is a lot of money for a vehicle you suddenly may not like when it comes in.
That HHR is so new that it probably came in from the GMAC Fleet Auction. The Merriam store is the local reconditioning center where all of the new Carmax vehicles come in for sales prep.
On Carmax pricing, it is actually a fair price most of the time. THERE IS NO NEGOTIATION OF THE PRICE. They run about a 5-6% profit margin on every vehicle. Most traditional car dealerships run about a 24% profit on every vehicle. The associates are paid a flat commission that starts out at $150 per car and goes up to $200 if you buy MaxCare. Traditional dealerships--even if you're a prime negotiator, will find a way to take MORE money out of your pocket 99% of the time.
