Great MPG

Right now I am getting about 29.4 mpg. That is combined freeway and side roads. Light traffic most of the way, sometimes traffic is a little heavier, and slower in spots on the freeway. No sitting on the freeway.
ONe way drive to work in about 40 miles and freeway speed is about 75 most of the time. Miles on HHR axp 5200

Using my daughter to keep track, (she's an engineering student)the best I have ever done is 35. That was on a perfect day with the wind at my back going downhill on I-84. I average 30 on the highway. And that is figured not with the DIC, but with a scientific calculator that I don't even know how to turn on.

I had an unusually long trip to work this morning about 70 miles. I reset the avgmpg meter and hit the road.
As the meter continued to rise I was suprised. Started at about 29mpg....then slowly climed, ending at about 41 when I exited the hwy. I was driving about 65...... I was like !WOW!

If you keep resetting your DIC for each little trip you are going to get some really inacurate numbers. After reseting the MPG on the DIC I have seen it as high as the 50-60 MPG range which is completely inacurate. Reset it when you refill your tank and drive around without resetting it until your next fill up for a more accurate idea of your MPG is. You have to give it a chance to find your average.

I've not reset the DIC since the day I picked mine up, but yesterday it was sitting on 31.1. Keep in mind that I have a minimal drive to the office of 92 miles one way. Yesterday I added on another 120 miles of driving, almost all highway. Also, I changed the oil this time to Royal Purple. I don't want to jump the gun just yet, but I switched my Silverado over to Royal Purple a couple years ago and realized about 2mpg increase. Prior to the Royal Purple in the HHR I was averaging 29-30. I wanted to run a few more miles and a couple tanks of gas before I report any true findings.
