When I see one of those over priced euro luxury models I can't help but think "do they know how many HHRs they could have bought for the price of that!" It goes beyond the euro cars too. For the price of a Z-06 Corvette you can buy 5 or 6 HHRs. Or would you rather have 1 Suburban or 2 HHRs? I'll go with the HHRs.

Well I can say we Can easily afford a Mercedes AND a BMW. Our Home is paid for and we owe no one nothing.

That said the reason we are in the position we are in IS because we never bought those kinds of things when we were young and could afford the payments. Timex and cash for cars. If we could not afford to pay cash we bought what we could pay cash for and keep saving. We bought our home and paid it off in 15 years putting what most 20 year olds spend in car payments on it extra. Never bought a car over $15,000. Never needed or desired one.

Now that we can afford twice as much we really don't really want one,

SAVE..collect interest. Don't pay it.The best "status SYMBOL IS BEING TOTALLY DEBT FREE. Of course you really can't show that off much......

Totally agree with you guys i prefer to save on cars and never buy top list luxury cars even if i could did in the past but now since i got my daugther,(3 years old now) and wife decided to quit her job to raise our girl at home the HHR was the "perfect" car for me. When the house will be paid we'll see.

No you don't. I agree with you - there's always going to be a cute and practical car that's reliable, so why would I go for more than I need? I already have one mortgage - do I really want to DRIVE ONE?

I agree also, IF I could afford a more expensive car, I would probably still have a HHR. I would have splurged for leather seats and a sunroof though . If I were really wealthy, I'd have my HHR for a daily driver and a Viper for fun on the weekends.

Mizzou...I was thinking the same thing about the HHR this morning...I'd probably get the improved seats, but other than that, I'm good. I'm distrustful of sun/moon roofs, though...every car I've owned with one, or anyone I know who had a car with one had to deal with them leaking in the rain. Of course, if I was rich, I'd just pay to get it replaced, but still...

Sounds like immaturity (meant as a description) or class envy to me !!!

MY POINT IS, IF you can AFFORD it, buy whatever fits your utility AND makes YOU happy. I have been doing that for many, many years.......and I'm quite happy.

No class envy here. If others want to spend their hard erned money on an import luxury car, that's great. I personally don't like foriegn cars, and won't own one. Just my personal choice. Besides, for me, I can't justify spending that much money when I can spend much less, and still get a quality car.

Then you missed my point. I can afford it. I choose not to. I would rather save the $$$ to spend the time with the people that I love. My car doesn't love me back, but they sure do.

I recently had to make a decision concerning my career. One option would have significantly increased my pay but also increased the time demands. The other offered slower income growth, but less of a time drain. I CHOSE less pay!

I'm not my job, and it isn't what makes me happy. It's not my stuff that makes me happy. It's the time that I spend with my family, and the time I spend doing the things I love that make me happy. So, why have less Happy and more Stress just so that I can afford to pay for expensive toys that add no enrichment to my life.

Or, why stretch my current budget for the same things? Makes no sense for me.

Ask your self this question. Do you own your stuff, or does your stuff own you?
