..yes Im a smart a$$.

Ok, back on thread - I used black silicone beading to finally silence the console top piece that creaks in harmony with the rest of the car and has drove me nuts for the last year. Car still gets crappy mileage (2.4 auto, all city, 13-16mph average - 15-16MPG average) W/e it runs fine, looks really good and it's paid for. I will keep it at least until I get up in the morning and cross that bridge again. Im driving it more now that it's quieter inside.

13 TO 16 are you sure you don't have the parking brake on ?
mine is getting 25 with stg1 on it there has to be some thing amiss there. Glad to hear you found a fix for that noise mine does it occasionally so thanks for the solution when I can't take it I'll do that, maybe it will stop if I threaten it?

Fine GM Techs cannot fix something that doesnt throw codes. 13-16 MPH average is why the MPGs are so low. It's been to the Dealer 7 times for this. "Nothing is wrong"

This may be a way out there suggestion, but I had this problem a few years ago with another car... How good are the neighborhoods that you are parking your HHR in, could someone be siphoning gas from you?

HHR has an anti-siphon tank, or so I've heard.

I feel your pain Don. My avgerage speed says 17, mpg 17-19. 2006 2lt, 39,000 miles, has never seen the dealer. So it is not you, it is all about getting the car over 40 mpr for a sustainable amount of time. Todd (Uma)

Nah, not this. Grey's right as well, they are antisiphon. It's because where I live the car barely gets up past the wonderful 40mph sweet spot to ride around in 4th gear. Like I said, take a look at your average speed if you're getting 23 + Im willing to bet your average speeds are much higher than mine.

Wow !!! I'm averaging 27-30 mpg.. Backroads & Hi-way..

If I lived in the city, I could see getting lower mpg.. my avg speed is 45 & there is no stop sign for like 12 miles of nice country roads..
