Hard to Start, No Codes???
Hi all,
My 2008 2.2 has been having an issue this last year. When I turn the key and release the starter will go through a start sequence and not start the engine. It may take two or three times before I will get a start. Sometimes the start sequence will turn the engine over a few times, sometimes longer. There are no codes being shown. This is intermittent, maybe more prevalent when hot, but it will do it just about any time. Some days it won't do it at all, some it happens fairly often in one day.
If I turn the key and hold it, same thing, no start.
Any thoughts??? I searched but could not find an answer.

I would have gone new spark plugs for a first choice. Cheapest, easiest won't hurt anything. Second cheapest, easiest, likely is run some injector cleaner thru the system. Then get the spark packs (whatever they are called) checked. Listen for fuel pump noises.
Voltage drop, DUH, the starter draws causing a drop while starting.

You did not say how many miles on your ride but I was thinking possible fuel pump as well. My old Monte Carlo did that. Took several trys sometime to start it. Changed the pump and all was good. Check fuel pressure?

I had a problem like this on an 07 with a 2.2 It turned out to be a bad fuel pump regulator. its part of the fuel pump and was leaking through and bleeding off the fuel rail causing a long crank time. the best way to check for this is to check the fuel pressure and see if the pressure drops when the engine is turned off. it should hold fuel pressure of at least 20 to 30 psi min. with the engine off. I have also found with this problem that you can turn the key on and off about three time with out starting then try to start it this will build up rail psi if its low rail psi is your problem.

Dear MCT,
I have read through the thread about your situation with your vehicle. I have not seen if you have had the vehicle into the dealership for this even though it was intermittent?
I am not trying to push the dealer upon, but I am trying to get all the facts to see about looking into this more.
