I think Greybeard is correct....

I remember an incident in San Diego about 12-14 years ago with a certain area that had repetitive vehicle thefts...many found stripped in Mexico.

Seems like an owner of a Grand Cherokee rigged his vehicle with a delayed "gas" bomb. The car was stolen and about 10 minutes later the "bomb" went off, causing the thief to lose control of the car and crash into other parked cars. He was the only one hurt and was suing the owner for his injuries. Can't tell you the outcome because I didn't see the follow-up. I also can't say if any criminal action was taken against the owner.

But this is California !!!!

Sorry to hear of the damage done to you by some low life thief. I'm surprised the hoodlum, was educated enough to pick up a screwdriver. We have a rash of car break ins going on in Omaha's downtown area, just in time for the holiday season; but most of these thieving goofs only know how to break glass with a rock, or other blunt objects. I feel for you. I hope the punk gets caught dead to rights, as I'm sure they'll be making the rounds for other victims.

Sorry to hear your HHR was broken into i'm a police officer and I can tell you 90% of all car brake in's happen that I do police report's on is because there was somthing inside your car the thief could see from the outside AND THAT'S WHY HE BROKE IN !!! Rule #1 Never have anything in plain site inside of your car that anyone would want to steal (cell phones,CD's,cameras,GPS,purses, bags or suitcases, ect.) So be honest what did they see inside your HHR that they wanted to steal ???

just to clarify, they damaged my car but did not gain entry. im thinking if they wanted something inside they would have just broken the window & taken it . maybe they wanted the car. repairs should be complete by wednesday. thanx all for the concern & kind words.

Agreed.

Lately, with my key fobs not working I have had to leave my drivers door unlocked because its been cold, and the lock is frozen otherwise.. I don't leave anything in site. Not even change.. and keep both keys in my apt.

You can urinate on the lock, that will un-freeze it Kev..

Or you could use some Silicone spray, or graphite for locks, or even WD-40... No need to have frozen locks..

Lubricate the lock Kev and then wipe some silicone on the door weatherstrip to keep it from freezing shut.
