My 2007 2LT (33K) seems to have a noisy headliner. I've only recently purchased this vehicle as a GM certified used car. When purchased, the dealership told me that this car was not included in the recent recall in regards to rattles in the headliner. However, I'm noticing where...at least around the sunroof...the glue that holds the velcro in place has dried out and come off.

I've identified two places where the headliner seems to make the rattle/buzzing noises, one of which is in the rear of the cabin. Has anyone else had this problem? What did your dealer do? Since my car is still under warranty, I'm having them look at it next week.

Would this be a job where the headliner is going to be replaced? Ideas?

 

I have a 07 2LT, sunroof with 19K and I get a rattle that comes and goes. There have been other posts around that mention the same thing, with the velcro fasteners being identified as the issue. I also bought my HHR certified used but have not taken it back to dealer. I was under the impression that only the 5 yr/100K warranty was all that transfered. I might be wrong on that.

 

The balance of the 3/36,000 warranty is applicable as long as the car hasn't passed it's original delivery date or the warranty hasn't been blocked because of the vehicle having a branded title(a salvage vehicle,usually).

Don't believe there has been a RECALL for rattles in the headliner.

But regarding your headliner noise. If you RECENTLY purchased the vehicle from the dealer he/she should take care of the problem. Let them worry about it.....it's way to hard to diagnose a "noise" long distance, by words and unseen.

 

i had a rattle in mine also took it in they found out that the wiring harness came loose from the roof and was bouncing on the headliner.

 

Actually, you're correct. I was wrong (shocking, I know) in regards to the HL recall. The vehicles recalled had issues with crash worthiness.

However, I know there has been an ongoing issue with...

• glue used to attach velcro fasteners--it dries out.
• sagging headliners
• noises coming from wiring/harnesses hidden by the headliner that become loose

The car is still under basic factory warranty, so this shouldn't cost me anything. And the dealer claims they'll be keeping me posted. Hopefully, it'll work well.

 

Apparently the recall was for cars without the overhead airbags. This was a misconception on my part. Interestingly, the dealer I took the car to found it and is doing it as I type. However interestingly, when I picked up the car, I was told that mine wasn't included in the recall. That was a boldface lie. Nice.

The dealer I'm using today (much closer to home) is very upfront with me, it seems. Let's hope it stays that way. They're figuring that the installation of the "energy absorbing plastic" will take care of the noise I'm hearing. They've heard, from customers, that not only will that recall fix crash worthiness, but it seemingly helps with sound insulation, too. While I haven't heard that, I'm just hoping I can get to my 3:30 appointment today!

 

Don't count on the recall fixing the rattle. The dealer installed it on mine and the rattle is still there louder than ever. I've asked to have the rattle fixed twice now with no luck, but they give it back everytime saying they took care of it. Guess I'll have to fix it myself.

 

I'm confused? Do you have roof rail air bags? Sound insulation? I don't think it would help in this area at all. And the rattle is usually the wiring harness, once again nothing to do with the recall.
