This is a heck of a time to ask, but...

What is a good, competitive price for an HHR SS Panel with J56, UUI, and UQ3?

I'm not worried about ordering it and waiting. In fact, I prefer to do just that. There's nothing worse than picking up a new car and driving it into slush, salt, sand, and gook. I'd rather wait for spring.

I've got four dealerships competing re: Price, but you've already bought one, and I just wondered about the bottom, bottom line.

I'm going to order one this week. I can't wait to join this friendly fraternity!

Many thanks in advance!

Big mistake. Prices are going to be at their highest in spring and summer. Red Tag is going on right now and you probably won't see any lower until next fall.

I'd say that 85% of the sticker price is a good starting price, then any other discounts you can get. Ordering a car now may be tricky as plants were shut down for a while and the dealers want to get rid of their inventory, rather than order another car built, so may be reluctant to deal.

I GOT MY HOT ROD!!!

One dealer wanted $1,000.00 more than I wound up paying. They were as sneaky as can be. I took back my deposit check, and went to the other dealer.

Once there the salesman, who is VERY knowledgeable, steered me away from the SS Panel into an SS with blind quarters (no window behind the rear doors). In the deal, I get honest to goodness back seats and a carpeted "way-back."

With the "Performance Package" and Pioneer sound system, it came to $25,154.00, minus whatever incentives are in place when I pick it up. I don't mind waiting 8-12 weeks for delivery. The incentive thing is a crap shoot, but I'll take my chances.

I'M GONNA GET MY HOT ROD!!! YIPPIE!!!

Depending on your option selection...the price you quoted appears close to MSRP.

My opinion.....you could do better.

Try building one to your spec. at Chevy.com. It will provide a RETAIL price.

Generally you can get dealer invoice less all incentives and then still get a little more.

I got $4700 off sticker in July so I would think you can do that or better now.

Also make them throw in things like Splash guards after you agree to the price it will save you $50-80 buck more.

Let me add my price we agreed on was $21,750 for an 08 with every option but the side air bags.

Even with the price increasse You should see a 09 in the 22-low 23 range with present incentives.

Use the internet and shop around My first offer was for the same vehicle for $24 800 and the guy told me I could not get it for less. Well I did and did not have to work to hard to do it at the right dealer.

Don't be afraid to buy out of town too. I bought my GTP 100 miles form home and got almost $9,000 off sticker.

I am not that good of a dealer but I do shop around and do spend the time to figure out how low a dealer can go on price.

Also buy on the last day of the month. It will save you more than you think. Make a fair offer and to meet the months numbers in a slow month they will take it.

I have seen too many here pay too much for SS like mine or less optioned ones. Do your home work on the web and shop smart.

Note I found my price at a dealer in Columbus for a near identical SS and they met my price. We were $700 off when I showed them the other SS. They wanted the sales and met my price.

Per Kelly Blue Book dealer cost prices (Edmunds is within a few bucks, too):

2009 HHR SS

BASE MODEL PRICE WITH DESTINATION CHARGE 23,925.90
(Mfr's Effective Date 08-01-2008)

J56 Performance Pkg • SS 787.60

AA5 Panel, Rear Quarter • SS ex Panel 171.60

UQ3 Radio Equipment,
Pioneer Premium Speakers • LT, SS 259.60

Total 25,144.70

My Price 25,154.00

Looks like $9.30 over dealer price, and I will get any incentive in effect at time of delivery.

I'm happy.

You are doing pretty good. The best price I could find was $24,829 after rebate.

It broke down to $23,606 AFTER rebate plus $788 for performance pack, $260 for the Pioneer Sound package, $176 for the Panel option.
