Helm factory service manual
Having searched the posts I was disappointed that neither Chilton nor Haynes has current plans for an after market HHR service manual.
I'd like to hear from anyone who has received the Helm-factory service manual. At $125+ it's a bit pricy, but appears to be the only game in town.
How clear is the Helm edition for ordinary maintenance and trouble shooting. No, I don't require three chapters devoted to engine rebuilding, but replacement of headlights, electrical troubleshooting, etc. would be nice.
Like to hear from you. -Sunburst Sam

Thank You
Thank you for the welcome to the forum.
Actually I've been following the forum for several months before getting the courage to join the forum.
The information contained here is incredible.
I believe that we all own a "cult vehcile", remember the VW microbus from the 1960's. We're close, but in time the historical record will tell.
In the meantime, after hours of sorting through the auto magazine reviews, some positive, some negative, examining the floor samples at the Chicago Auto Show and finally taking a test drive at my local dealership, I arrived at the decision to factory order my HHR.
A great decision...an understated decison that has resulted in true pride of ownership. -Sunburst Sam

Helm manual
I stepped up and bought the Helm manual because I keep my vehicles a long time. 10-15-20 years. It is 2 thick volumes and has EVERYTHING in it. It is the same as that used by Mr. Goodwrench. The layout takes a little getting use to but it is very well crossreferenced. You're right it is a little pricey, but I'm glad I bought mine. It's alot of manual.
I worked 45 years in automotive repair and feel naked without service manuals. I've had my HHR almost 6 months and 5k miles with no problems. Nada. Zip

I also have the the Helm manual for the HHR. There are troubleshooting charts for almost everything (electrical, suspension, cooling, etc.). There is a section that deals with routine maintenance. Most sections start with the simplest R&R (remove & replace) then work their way into complex disassembly. To me, the Helm manuals are easily worth their price if you keep your vehicle for a reasonably long time or are doing mods.
