Question Help me find out what I have? 2.2L or 2.4L

This is my first post so please forgive me for the stupid question. I was just given a 2006 Sport Red HHR LT for my birthday. I went to AutoZone to buy a locking gas cap since I don't trust people and the kids on my block. They make two kinds, a 2.2L version and a 2.4L version. Where can I look to find out what kind of engine I have? Can I look for something under the hood that would tell me? I don't have any paperwork on the car. Just the owners manual. My car has a LT badge on it but I think it's an LT2. If mine was an LT2, would it have an LT2 badge or would it still say LT? I think mine is an LT2 because it has a sunroof, Pioneer sound system, shiny chrome grill, door handles, and side mirrors, leather seats. I hope you guys can help me out so I can get the right gas cap for my HHR and other accessories. Thanks in advance!!!

to the site! Pop the hood. the engine should either say Ecotec 2.2 or Ecotec VVT (2.4)

Also make sure you check the caps before you leave the store, few locking caps fit in a way that the door closes completely.

You need to remove the air filter holder to see the top of the motor.

BTW, welcome to the forum!!

If you have a 2.2 it can't be a 2LT.
If you have a 2.4 it might be a 2LT
All the other items you list can be had as options on a 1LT

Thanks guys! I'll take a look tomorrow since I have to remove the cover. I love the car. My only concern is that it seems to have a bad blind spot and you really have to rely on your side mirrors. I am not used to that since I like to turn my head and look out the back windows when I switch lanes. I guess I'll have to get used to it.

Talking

I just read the other thread about the FE3 code in the glove box and my HHR does have FE3 so it is a 2.4L LT2! GREAT!

Emissions Label

Under the hood white label near windshield on drivers side. The label will tell you what engine is in your HHR.
