No desire for this. The money to do this I could buy a lot of other really cool toys.
As for AWD you are best off buying a car with it. It not only takes A lot of time and money but develoment anymore to do it right. Most systems today are computer operated and are not just bolt on's.
Also many forget how much power it takes to run the front drive.
We have a street rod at work that takes over 150 HP just to drive the front wheels using a syclone drive line in front and a ZR1 in the rear. The car has 3 second 0-60 times but much slower 1/4 mile.
At least we have 650 HP of Lingenfelter power built by the man himself before he passed.

Opel offers a AWD system on the OPC version of the Buick Regal. It has a Haldex system which is one of the best available.
It also has a 325 HP Tubo V6 to drive it.
It also cost a lot of money no one would have paid for a HHR. It would have driven the HHR cost over $30,000.
AWD would have been nice but it is very hard to do at the price the HHR is targeted at.
Buick is not going to offer the AWD on the Regal GS as originally planned. THey want to keep the engine small and the price down. They may offer a limited edition later but it will be $35K-40K at best for a Jetta size car.

Price that with the new technology in todays dollars and it would be over $30K and have few buyers.
Even then most were just FWD and AWD was the rare one.
The other issue as they get older the cheaper cars with AWD are not worth the money to repair them. That is why so few are on the roads as they age.
