My link to the thread was not good enough.

How about at least describing the tool you used? The pics don't do it for me.

What about the o ring on the oil filter? If not put on correctly could leak from there.

The tool looks like a metric 3/8's drive socket a short extension and scut down Allen wrench taped up and a open end combo wrench to turn it. I still think a little longer extension and a 3/8's ratchet will do the job, I have changed out these o rings, did not have to drop the transmission but I can't recall the socket size

So theres engine oil leaking somewhere allowing it to puddle on the starter and the front lower head area. filter cap apppears to be tight, and somehow the oil level was not low when i last checked. tried cleaning it off but apparently its been leaking for a while.
Whats the common leak points on these engines? thanks
I had the same issue. Simply, the problem of the O ring was not in its rightful place. I bought a new oil filter housing cap at autozone. And it came with an o ring already in its rightful place. I put it on and BAM,, no more leak. Hope this helps..

6 year old thread. Tylerz71 you quoted hasn't been logged in since then.

And he never confirmed his oil leak, oil filter cap o-ring, oil pressure sending unit, oil filler cap seal, valve cover gasket, sloppy funnel use when putting oil in, or while changing oil filter. But thank you for confirming your method of identifying your oil leak problem area. Welcome to the site

I’m not aware of a hose from the engine to the oil pan in the Ecotec engines in an HHR

the oil cooler has 2 orings to seal to the engine block.
the hoses from the thermostat housing to the oil cooler then to the tee in the lower rad hose are for coolant transfer. They do not go to the oil pan.
perhaps you could post a photo , please
