Looks like the cabin is pretty much intact. I wonder how the fellow sustained such injuries? I guess whiplash is inevitable with such a powerful head-on impact....

From the looks of it, I think it was spun around by the initial impact, there is damage to the left rear quarter panel and the left rear wheel is seriously out of whack. Probably got the neck damage due to the whiplash effects, the wrist injuries probably came from the bag if his hands were hit during the bag's deployment.

All in all the car's crumple zones did EXACTLY what they are designed to do. PROTECT THE CABIN. That is probably why the windshield is still intact with all that front end damage. That doesn't mean that the crumple zones prevent injury to the passangers but they stand a better chance for survival thanks to the crumple zones. Glad to hear the driver is alive.

This is why I asked if he had a belt on as for the most this is far from the worst crash I have seen while suffering so many injuries.

I figured it was either a spinning crash or he was un velted and braced on the wheel taking the rotor cuffs while taking the disc hitting the air bag.

Air bags and no belts will mess you up. Just wondered since I drive a similar vehicle and just would like to know to prevent it if I were ever in the same kind deal.

Good point about the spinning affect - that could explain the rear damage and the neck injuries.
