HHR damaged in an accident, I知 fixing it !

Guys
I bought a n '11 HHR LT, Mocha Steel with 85K miles, in Jan. Joined the forum shortly after and enjoyed belonging. Last week I had a deer collision and the Insurance Co. totaled the car even though I drove away.
I am going to miss the heated seats, Bluetooth, and a sweet ride.
Regards
Bill

Bill- Sorry to hear about your collision, good that you seem to be ok.
You can still find another one. If you choose.

Yeah I hit a deer on my snowmobile up there. Lost part of my front tooth, choke myself with the chin strap of the helmet.
-20F and thought it was 70 after that.
Glad you're OK .
Buy another if you would like.

Continued

The Insurance Co. sent the check, it covered what I paid for it just a few weeks ago. I really hated to see an '11 with just 89K, a fresh oil change and a set of tires with just 4K mi. go to the scrapyard. I checked some previous posts and thought; I can do that. I borrowed the neighbors come-a-long and pulled the top cross member straight. Yesterday I checked the local U-Pull and they had 3 HHR's. One had a hood and fender-in silver. I went back this morning with tools and I now have a silver and gold HHR. The headlight is coming from Ebay and I can get a bumper cover from Amazon for $80 and change. I spent not quite $100 for the hood, fender and a second spare tire cover. The hood and fender were installed before noon. The headlight is another $40 and change and my HHR will be driveable, not pretty, but roadworthy. Now I can look for a replacement without the pressure of "needing" a car immediately
My appreciation to all those who posted informative data that proved useful.
UPDATE
Headlight arrived, primered bumper cover coming tomorrow. Still in need of the drivers side marker lamp. Anyone have one lurking out there?

Bill. I'm confused.
If the insurance company totaled the car and sent you a check, then you don't own the car anymore. Accepting their $ offer on a car that they say is a total loss means you relinquish ownership of the damaged vehicle to them.
Hope you're not doing this repair work and then they come and take "their car " back.

Clarification

My bad. I left out a critical piece of information. When the Insurance Co. told me they were declaring the car a total loss, I inquired what they figured for salvage value. I told them I wanted to keep the car and they deducted that amount from the check. Except for the parts, I have an almost free car, albeit in less than showroom new condition. But the miles they go is the only milk they give, right?

That's the way to do it! Take some pictures and keep receipts to document your repairs. You may have a salvage title to deal with later on to explain if you decide to sell.
You can drive it many miles now and your total cost per mile will be great.
I like the analogy of miles and milk. Milk costs more per gallon than gasoline in CA again.
