First thing that comes to mind is a plug that was used for the dip stick tube when it was built from the factory. The plug was put in the inside of the trans during assembly and pushed out when the filler tube was installed.
I know of no hard or soft part from that trans that looks like it.
Ford used a nylon "lolly pop" plug in the C4/C6 trans, which I saw many times.
Inside looks really good.
Am I also looking at a distributor clamp and the torque converter?
On my 200R4 I bought a jam nut which I braised to the inside of the pan and used an oil drain plug/gasket from an auto parts store.

Awesome!!! Thanks for the piece of mind. That is a distributor hold down, good eye. The round thing is the big power steering pulley. Got a new starter, cap/rotor/coil, sway bar bushings/mounts, plug wires, header plugs, converter bomts, couple valve cover mounted loom separators, and some heater hose clamps so I can route my hoses and bolt them down. Busy and exciting day ahead. Just got the motor to tdc , fixing to drop in the dizzy and get to making and routing the plug wires. I can put the pan back on now. Got a fresh drain plug kit from b&m installed.

Now I see the P/S pump pulley. Stupid me.
Leave the magnet in the dimple in the trans pan.
By the way what are "header plugs"? Or are they the shorter Accel plug ?
Are you going to put in softer/shorter springs?
I just made up new ignition wires using the same Street Fire wires for my Monte. Crimp tool that comes with it works well. PM me and I can explain what I found out using it.
Also used Taylor Cable ignition wire looms P/N 42502. Here's what they look like:

I use to use brass 1/4" pipe plugs to close them off on the cast manifolds.
Being he bought headers and he has a clearance issue in 4 area's, I think he bought after market short body spark plugs.

Heres the mid day report Drain plug is installed and pan is back on the tranny. Got the factory transmission crossmember unbolted. Looks like simply sliding The crossmember back and drilling some new holes is gonna be the simple solution. Looks like The drive shaft should clear as long as I've got a little rake in my stance. Alternator and power steering pump are on, starter is on, and new sway bar bushings are attached. Picked up a tranny mount for an 87 Monte Carlo at Oriellys forb$10.99, looks like its gonna work perfect.
The boot sleeves are Design Engineering, part #010501 Oriellys, Summit, and the speed shop I got these at were all priced at $19.99.
