HHR Recall?
Hey Y'all,
I was looking at the listing on cars.com that Mike (socalhhr) posted. I was flipping through the tabs and I looked at the recalls link. cars.com had a recall posted for the HHR:
Change Vehicle2006 Chevrolet HHR
Back to Recalls ListRecalls current as of 11/24/2006
NHTSA Model Name:
HHR
Component:
AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
Recall Number:
06V417000
Date recall entered into NHTSA database:
11/01/2006
Summary:
BECAUSE A REPLACEMENT LEATHER SEAT COVER THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM IS NOT AVAILABLE, GENERAL MOTORS (GM) WILL REPURCHASE THESE VEHICLES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS STATED IN GMÂ’S LETTER TO OWNERS. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT NOVEMBER 6, 2006. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT GM AT 1-877-477-1022 TO BEGIN THE PROCESS OF REPURCHASING THEIR VEHICLE.
The manufacturer first notified owners of this recall on .
This recall affects vehicles manufactured between 07/01/2005 and 07/31/2005.
Is this a current and correct recall??? I've yet to see this posted on any of the forms and I've yet to hear about it from GM Canada or from my dealership. I am confused and concerned.
They provide a range of build dates, can anyone find out which range on VIN's were put pn these vehicles?
Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

This actually affects a wide range of GM vehicles that were originally equipped with cloth seats and had aftermarket leather seat covers installed. I've seen something here about it before.

I have TWO of the vehicles on the list but mine have factory leather. If you are unsure if you have factory leather, find your Service Parts Identification (SPID) Label. It's usually in the glovebox or behind a panel in the cargo area. You'll look for a code that is three numbers (142 for light grey, 322 for cashmere, 132 for ebony/light grey) - these codes indicate factory leather and the recall won't affect you. If you see 14B, 32B, or 13B AND you have leather - this recall applies to you.
NOTE: These codes are for '06 HHR but GM convention is three numbers = leather, two numbers and one alpha = cloth. You can double check that you are looking at the seat trim code by locating the code that ends in "I". It will match the first two numbers of your seat trim code. For example, my car has the light gray interior with factory leather, hence 14I interior code and 142 seat code.

With out pulling up the TSB thread I think it had to do only if you had cloth seats replaced with leather seats. Had something to do with the sensor for the airbag was messed up. This was only if you had the dealer replace the seat. Could be off some but I think that was what it had t do with
