I have read that GM did some unorthdox marketing for this car, which support the above claim. They gave these shop's first dib's to make an inpact for these cars which promotes GM and there shops. Contracts have completion dates which would most likely have a contrual casue that states after a certain time the have full rights to retain back ownership. Look at the World Series Baseball that Doug M caught 2 years ago. He has a contract with boston to keep posesion of the ball for one year. Now the year is up and they are fighting who owns the ball. If fan's were able to see Barry Bonds baseball then I guess doug will get back his. Sorry for the off tanget example.

No, not right. They were all finalized production vehicles straight off the line. Darkside's had a VIN (production number), just like all the rest. It's true that Chevy took them all back - but this was the agreement from the start. You get the car for 6-12 weeks, and walk away with (hopefully!), some prototyped parts, molds, etc. and get a good chunk of free advertising.

Coming from the automotive magazine industry, I can tell you - that's pretty much how it works.

SoCal do you think Chevy would destroy the cars or just store them after they make their rounds?

They are currently running them on the new car show circuit. At least that's what Erich from DarkSide told me. I don't think they will destroy them - since they are legally "production" cars. More than likely some hot-shots way up the ladder in Chevy will eventually have the option of buying them for personal use.

I'd love to get my hands on Year One's rear wheel drive V8 version!

If Chevy introduces a 2-door panel version - we're buying one as a shop truck. If that happens, it'll get a tube frame, tubbs, 500in blown BB, and you will see it at the drags!

I love a two door truck as well. It kinda remined me about as the chevy exterme in some aspect.
