HHR road trip to Smoky Mts.
Wife and I took the HHR on it's first road trip couple weeks ago. Spent a few days in Gatlinburg & Smoky Mountain Nat'l Park for my b-day. Had a great time!!. 2nd day there, this silver HHR arrived at the hotel (Best Western Twin Islands right in Gatlinburg); for the rest of our stay we keep joking about the hotel was for HHR owners only! Never did meet the other owner, though....
Pleasantly surprised on how well the HHR did in the mountains. On the trip down, with cruise set between 75-80, DIC (reset to zero before start) was showing 31.7MPG, and overall, got 26.8. The HP difference in the HHR vs the Grand Prix - 200 vs 172 - was noticeable on the steep grades, but not as bad as I thought it might be. Last 4 banger I drove in mountains before this was a '84 Skyhawk, and there were times with it that I might as well got out & pushed!
Didn't really think to take any pix of the HHR in the Park, just this one. Too busy trying to capture all the natual beauty, I guess. Including shooting some video while standing up THRU the sunroof!! Wife was driving, of course. Probably good thing we didn't run into any park rangers though!!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the Smokies!!
East TN is a beautiful place, and the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area is perfect for a cruise....nice and easy through the parks, or havin' a ball over in NC runnin' the Tail of the Dragon...
Come back and "see us" ANYTIME!!....

Sounds like a great trip. I just came back from a week traveling the eastern sea coast (Jersey to Hilton Head, SC) and the car did great, managed 30mpg for the entire trip with another person, suitcases, etc....
Funny enough though similar to you....next to me was a blue HHR the entire week i was down there.
