Question Are HHR safe autos?

Hi all, new here and considering on purchasing an SS. Love the look and the endless customizing possibilities but I'm a little worried about it being a smaller auto and no side air bags. I've also read on another forum about it not being so structural with the roof on a role over. How do you all feel about yours and it's safetyness? I'm here to learn.. doing a little research before making the plunge. Thanks all.

Some HHRs do come with the side bags and it has a 5 star safety rating. I'm very confident with my HHR's safety. It's actually the first auto I've owned that I feel comfortable wearing the seatbelts.

My HHR came equipped with 4 side curtain airbags for a total of 6 airbags. And as previously stated they have a great crash test rating.

After seeing some of the crashed HHRs w/ fortunate outcomes, I have full confidence in the little wagons!

Not that I want to get into any accidents.

Hey guys thanks for the responses. Maybe I got confused as to what "side" airbags are. When I was at Edmunds pricing out the SS, it shows head airbags as optional but side airbags are not available. On chevy's site, it shows "Air bags1 head-curtain, side-impact; front and rear outboard ". Does this mean the head airbags are come all the way down to also protect the side of your body? Just to clarify, some manufactures make separate side and head airbags.

Thanks,

the optional airbags, whatever name you want to use for them, are in the upper portion of the pillars of the car (a and b pillars, not sure about the c-pillar, i'd have to check, don't believe so), and open upon a side impact, primarily protecting your head i believe (haven't been in an accident so i don't know first hand how they deploy).

Get the HHR with the side airbags and you will be fine. Of course, if you drive like hell, you will get there. If, on the other hand, you aren't a crazy driver, you will be safe inside the HHR "cage" with the side airbags.
