Which hhr ss to get?

I didn’t say your idea wouldn’t work. I’ve got the Torque App and Torque Lite on 2 old phones with the BT dongle. I use them for pulling codes and such. I would never mount them anywhere in any of my cars.
I gave it a 👎🏼, because it would look cheap if you put a phone or tablet there.
Just My opinion…….

Not lame at all , the IMPC tail lights are very bright, mine are Ruby Red, so they appear to be factory OEM until dark!
As for phones and tablets and dongles, I listen to Jim Morrison , “Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel “, all the information the screens give you make no difference if your pulled over by police and ticketed got distracted driver!
Drive safe now.

Having been thus enlightened, they can stop complaining that most of the time there is not a single RPD available, new or used, and stop snapping up in hours or less the occasional used one that surfaces.
They will tell you, however, that a tablet-and-app requires a good-quality genuine ELM-327 dongle tying up your OBD-II port. The $cheap counterfeit knock-offs are mostly too slow for really-time data even when they don’t lock up or crash.

When you become an actual HHR SS owner and join that community, be sure to notify them. What a bunch of noobs. I bet they never considered the superiority of having a tablet that needs to be kept charged while bouncing around the cabin or mickey-mounted. They will surely appreciate you correcting their folly of preferring a period-correct OEM display with adjustable contrast that dims and brightens automatically along with the rest of the panel, with an actual knob that can change functions while the driver’s eyes are on the road.

I will buy a Bluetooth module and test it out just to see.
It will be big enough or have a high enough resolution to accommodate every function of that rpd on one screen if needed. And have auto brightness functionality...as do most tablets...
It's not hard to make a panel that looks factory. I dare say BETTER than the rpd holder which IMO looks half finished and odd.
I would consider it, if it we're affordable and available. $800+ and hard to get? Does not seem worth it vs a tablet or screen somewhere. Probably not that hard to wire up a raspberry pi on ignition switched power and hard wired to a usb obd plug either....

If a tablet is hard to mount, even a smart phone is probably over twice as big as the RPD. Some of the apps only produce a phone-sized display anyway, so in that case the extra area of the tablet is wasted. I dedicate a rather old smart phone, with a market value of close to $0 and no ESN chip, so virtually all of the cost is in the ELM-327 dongle. Have no ambition to mount it though.
