HHR Trade In Values
#21
On the one hand, it is great seeing all of the HHR's on the road now. I think people have learned the HHR has so many standard features for a great price, along with good MPG.
On the other hand, it is sad to know the HHR did not retain it's resale value nor hold on to being the novelty it once was when it came out in 2006. I bought mine new in January of 2006, and even drove it off the red carpet in the dealer's showroom! I was always curious though, that in 2006 and 2007, you rarely saw an ad for the HHR.
My car has 21000 miles on it, is loaded, and in excellent condition. However, I found out my HHR is not worth more than 10,000 as a trade-in.(paid 20,000 for it in '06) Sad. Very Sad. Still, I love HHRvey and I think I will hold on to him for at least another 3 or 4 years.

when I go to trade in my 06 2LT with 64k on it, I dont expect any more than $8000.
it's spotless, has every option except onstar and leather, and has had alot of recent work done(1 axle, 2 new struts, a new catalytic converter, tires, brakes, tranny service).
it's even a "neutral" color.
that will put me almost $5k upside down...but dealers only want a trade in if they can make money on it.
I never blame them for offering low money on trades. I only blame them if they dont offer discounts/haggling on sales of used cars.
if i trade in my 06 on a 2008 slightly used car, I expect them to eat as much as I do...if they want to move units.
I dont know why on earth I would ever begin the cycle again...but I drive way too much to buy a cheap-o. I want a car i can count on to get me 180k miles over a 6 year period...because that's usually the amount of time I finance for.
My 06 had 32k on it last year(12/31/07) when I bought it. Now it has 64k, and I've only paid off about $3k....you see my point?
