HHR vs Deer - the result...

A tie... sort of

Just got the car back from the shop about a week ago.

Was driving to work around 6:00 am going around 45 mph, it was a really cold morning, and out of no where a deer stops right in front of me. I slammed the brakes on and went left, the deer started to go left then changed its mind and bolted right. I hit it in it's rear right side and spun it in the air and it hit the ground and stayed there. Great... Pulled over and got out, deer got up, shook it off and bolted into the woods (with what I am guessing was a REALLY sore backside). Bumper cover was shattered, right headlight was pushed in and up, right fender was pushed down and back with a 1" split in the metal, grill was toast, bunch of other plastic parts on the right side were cracked, and my coffee that had been in the cup holder was now all over the radio, heater controls and center console. Thankfully for whatever reason the airbags didn't go off. Drove it the mile back to my house. Amazingly other than my headlight illuminating the tops of the trees, it drove fine. A little under $2000.00 worth of damage + a weeks rental car. Could have been much much worse. The ironic thing is if it had been my F-150 it would have been some fur in my bumper and that's it.

You did luck out. I'm just glad I clipped it. I pretty much manged to hit it's rear leg and spin it. I think if it were more head on it would have been up and into the windshield.

Try that trickwith a motorcycle. I did in 1987. My hands took the brunt of the whole thing as it was night and i was wearing a jacket and boots. other than aches and pains. My hand had looked like they went through a meat grinder.
