HHR will not warm up

Happy 2023 everyone! I hope you are all well. I would like to thank all in advance for anymore that is willing to shed some light about what my car is doing. I have a 2006 LT with 140K on it. It has been running well up until a few days ago when I noticed it will not warm up meaning the coolant is not reaching normal operating temperature. My car normally runs at 190-194 degrees. The warmest I am seeing is 170. Tonight things got worse when the coolant read out is showing nothing(see photo). No CEL yet. I think I know what the problem is but I was hoping to get some insight from you all. I greatly appreciate your feedback. Stay well and have a good day:)

That’s definitely a sign your thermostat has failed, use an AC Delco 131-158 180 degree thermostat, other brands don’t open within the ECM s expectations . Change your Dexcool also it has a life span of 5 years.

Get the front end as high as possible. We would lift them two feet or better. Gets the air up and out much faster.

That was a very kind gesture. I see the link you sent me and I will check it out. I went to Walmart and bought some Dexcool and two gallons of distilled water to get this finished today. The thermostat arrives from Rockauto today. Wish me luck. Cheers!

Mix the Dexcool first 50/50 then pour it in front end high, as Greg suggested

you’re welcome

All went well. Took two hours. The car is now running around 180-189. Nice and warm now. I could not get to the pet**** because the radiator mount was in the way. Took about half gallon of dexcool. Burped it once. Tomorrow I will check it for air. This came at a perfect time because the weather here in upstate New York got cold! Thank you for your support. Cheers!

P.S. The thermostat that came out of the car was definitely stuck open. There was a piece of rubber sticking out of side. I enclosed pictures. The thermo on the left is the new one. You can see the difference in the two. There is a piece of metal missing off the bad one. That is a bit concerning.

If that’s the original thermostat, it’s 17 years old, it’s done its job.
