it ain't no atv.
maybe it's just me, but if my hhr was having the problems you stated, I'd dang sure not be doing 60 on a dirt road with dust, dirt and gravel getting in the electronics. that just ain't smart, period.

So, if there is for OK, then I wouldn't tell them you were doing 60 when you get a lawyer...

You're correct.....but GM will petition for the "little black box" anyhow. That will be the tattletale.

I'd have to say that I agree with CameraCrew on this one. Glad to hear that no one was injured though...but please do keep us informed on what the dealer has to say about the problem now. Plus...you won't see mine on a dirt road either....but I guess sometimes it can't be helped if you live, work or have friends who live in the country.

Anyway, I was on a dirt road when it happened. I was going about 60, and it did the engine brake and started sliding. I tried to save it, but it was too far gone. I missed a double telephone pole and slid into a barbed-wire fence. .
AND YOU ARE BLAMING THE CAR. Sounds like you were going way to fast on a dirt road and then you ran out of talent !

Yea.. on most dirt roads it's not a good idea to do 60, but this was one of the more used county roads, and doing 45 is like being a Sunday driver. Still, that's no excuse. I probably won't even consult a dealer on the subject, since they would have a legitimate argument (speeding/dirt road, etc..). It would just be a long, drawn-out struggle with no good result that could come out of it that I can see.
I'm just going to repair it with my own money, which I added up should be somewhere between $700-1000, depending on who I get to do the body work/paint.
I went on Kelley Blue Book's site yesterday, and put in all correct information, and it said that my car would be $13,000 if I trade it in now. Then I went ahead and seen what it would be if everything was good, and it was only $16-17,000!
I'm pretty sure that's bad even in domestic car standards of resale.
Oh well... **** happens I guess...

Dirt road or not, speeding or not, if it's normal behavior I want to know.

Transpose everything to a snow/ice covered road and you've got a disaster waiting to happen. It just makes no sense for a vehicule to get into a heavy engine braking mode at 60 mph. If there's low road grip, you will loose control (the back end will pass you).

I would expect (and hope that it's the case), that the engine fuel supply be reduced and that the transmission shifts down to a low gear only when the speed is appropriate.

Your tune sure seems to be changing.
Just what excatly is your car's alleged electrical problem ?
ENGINE POWER REDUCED should not cause sudden braking. And why couldn't you have bumped the tranny into Neutral?
It sounds to me there was quite a bit of driver error involved. If not I'd be all over the dealer.
