Auto transmission in HHR are pretty reliable, it’s the flushing and not checking the fluid levels, ignoring any signs of slipping or shifting weird. As fastsuv said the parts aren’t expensive it’s getting the tranny out to access them that’s expensive, or time consuming, if your handy!

Wife's 2008 LS died in June..she was in head on accident. Air bag knocked her out...but otherwise
ok.
Other car crossed yellow and wiped out the drivers side and ripped out the suspension.181,000 miles and still ran excellent. Tires replaced earlier THAT DAY !

SO..she wanted another HHR..loved her car.She says it saved her life..
I was a GM for years in car biz.. Made a bunch of calls. Found a grey LT1 at a Nissan dealer, probably going to auction for Used Car lot, as it was back lined.
Dealer manager was a guy I trained in car biz 20 years ago !
I saw the trade in docs..the recon/tires..new brakes AC service records etc. Auction estimate $6000. They ate everything but taxes..and back rolled the deal to OTD.

2011 with 51,000 miles. Clean Carfax shows oil change every 3 months and detail !
Older folks car looks and drives as new. Unfortunately this has hubcaps..one missing now as Nissan had put new tires on. Her '08 had nice Custom aluminum wheels. .

Also got it quite cheap approx. $6500 OTD (Daddy liked this !)
I liked her Red 2008 but Grey is OK but I can't see her driving in traffic !

'SISU' ventured into the 191k+ arena today.
Only work done was for expected wearables, i.e. brakes, motor mounts, chains, etc.
Oil changed every 3000 miles. No noticeable leaks.
Great vehicle when taken care of.

Just under 198,000 and getting there fast. so far running good after a bit of front end work. Brakes are next on the list and maybe struts.. 2006 HHR lt2 got it with 135,000 ish miles and had it for about a year now. Always on the lookout for another one for future replacement....

i have a 2008 chevy hhr that i bought 3 years ago due to my 2006 piston and heads going out so i needed something in the meantime till i decided what to do. my 2006 only has 50000 miles and has had more problems than the 2008 or at least on the report they gave me it hasn't had any problems but whoever had it before changed the oil every 3000 miles and it was only a one owner car

110k+ on my 2011 HHR LT, and all it's needed have been minor repairs.

...it's even been coast to coast, from NorCal up through eastern Oregon and out Yellowstone way, all the way back to Maryland trailering a 5x8 at ~1500lbs (─‿─) it even once graced the brutal ride down into The Lost Coast (shown resting with its bow) (❀◦ o◦) that said, it's needed plenty of breaks and tires, and now it definitely needs new shocks (✿◠ o◠) ...guess it sounds like the KYB 349043 and 339084/85 set ...and maybe some new Polk speakers for the front doors... xD

"pleased t'meecha!" [we don't know it yet, but your name is, Marceline]

"sorry to force you down those brutal 7 miles of rutts and washouts."

[Marceline actively blocking me from cougars and coyotes]

"thanks, darlin."

[being kind to Marceline and my worn-out heart]

[slowly catches breath]

[POOF] "Marceline, where the hell have i gotten us to?"

"you happy right now? me too."
