High output alternator

to be honest with you the 240/260 Amp are perfect. considering you need the best amperage at Idle. why dont you add up the car's needed amps, the stero's amperage, and the other accessories. i am telling you the 260 would be good for what you are doing.

I think anyone that`s thinking about a larger alternator should read this first.

You know GDZHHR........
This got me thinking about the HIGH OUTPUT of an aftermarket alternator, even though it is probably "somehow" regulated.
Would it cause fault codes and/or problems with/from the computer???

Thanks GTOMike...
I missed that post, somehow. I had seen that article before, a couple years ago, but can't remember where. It does provide some interesting thoughts and suggestions.......and I see they also raise questions regarding the possible "computer" problem.
GDZHHR.......
If you're open for suggestions, I would say read that article and check with your supplier for answers. I would sure hate to pay $500+ and think it is essentially a "bolt-on" and then find out it needs another $300-400 in fabrication AND then find out that it will "fry' the electronics and the dealer says, "sorry" when you have problems.
Good Luck....

if they are from Iraggi chances are they are direct bolt-on...
GTOMIKE alot of what you posted is hearsay.
At my old shop we would replcae alternators on straight off the lot Escalades, Navigators, etc all the time to much better HO Alternators. As long as the install is done correctly, is bolt on, and fused properly no dealer could deny warranty on the rest of the electrical system if another component failed.
you will certainly lose warranty on the alternator portion. Stereo guys have their levels of certification too and typically can do the same trouble shooting the "diagnostic" machine at your dealer does with their brains.

Here are the specs from the manual. And GM prefers to use generator rather then alternator for what ever reason. However everyone I work with still calls them alternators. I guess it's like I still say Ice Box instead of refridgerator or Kleenix instead of tissue etc. Yes there is a difference between the two but GM wants to call them generators...go figure
