Horn questions...
I'm new to the HHR world and the first thing I noticed was the crappy horn. I've read several threads about adding different horns, but does anyone know what is standard equipment - HIGH or LOW tone? It shouldn't be that hard to add a second, but I'd like to know which one to get before I tear it apart...
Also, on the subject of horns - a couple of times when I'm walking away from the car, the horn beeps 3 times. What is this trying to tell me???
Tnx - geo

Welcome. I know when you lock the doors with the switch by the interior door handle, it will chirp 3 times telling you that when all doors are closed they will lock in approx 5 sec. Never heard the horn beep 3x on mine. Maybe it doesn't want you to leave.

Mine Honks Late Sometimes To Tell Me Goodnight

First off, nhisfan,
The only time I have heard the horn honk 3 times, is when I (accidently ) press the horn button on the remote. If you hold it too long, it will go into panic mode. Then you need to press the unlock button to stop it.

Generally, 3 beeps cautions of a changed condition. This is from the 2006 Owners Manual.......
But, I can't tell you why it does it after you walk away. Unless it is analyzing the situation and takes a second or two to decide.

I own a 2008 HHR SS. The standard horn is a Low note horn. I picked up a High note horn at Advance Auto Parts. It matches the standard horn exactly, except it is the High note. It is Fiamm Part No. High Note A 72002.
IMO it is the most worthwhile, inexpensive mod one can make to an HHR. What a difference ! It is not a difficult installation, once the panels in front of the LF wheel are loosened/removed.
Good luck.

OK - new horn installed. What a difference. Ralph was right - the original is EXACTLY like the aftermarket add on. Even the same brand - Fiamm. I just pulled back the inner fender, piggy backed the new horn on the original's bracket, made a jumper for the positive wire, and bingo - much nicer sounding 'toots'. I think a dual horn should be part of the LT package...
Hillsdale - I sure wish I could go to your Cedar Point event. I grew up about 45 miles from there and have many fond memories. Plus, that place turned me into a bonafied roller coaster junkie!!! I remember when the Corkscrew was one of the first upside down coasters in the country - that was a long time ago...

If I understand your post correctly you had attached the new 'High Note" horn TO THE OEM HORN with a jumper, thus you have both horns emitting the sound. Did you change any fuses, relays.....or have you blown any fuses???? Do you know if the install is pulling more amps???
