Horn Upgrade
#12
I don't have an alarm on the '07, and no the horn doesn't sound when I lock/unlock the doors with the remote for the keyless entry. Probably would if I pressed the "I can't find my car" button...... so far I've been able to find my car.

I just put the El Grandes on and they're great. Since there is limited room to work in the fender well, after I took the old horn off, I assembled the two new horns outside of the car. I used a long bolt going through the mounting pieces that came with the horns and put a lock washer and nut on. Then lifted the whole assembly up into the fender well, slipped the long bolt through the original horn bracket, added a lock washer and a nut. I also found that by adding 12-18 inches of wire as suggested in one of the other posts, (after cutting off the old connector), I was able to easily put new connectors on also outside of the car. Once the horns were bolted up, it was a snap to attach the connectors to horns. Worked first time.

Isn't the alarm standard? It was on my 07, and mine is a very base, no frills HHR.

Never heard my HHR's horn. I very rarely use a car's horn and think people tend to over use them. (personal opinion) Never heard the horn in my Astro either and I owned that for 5+ years....
Adding a second would work but make sure you check that you aren't exceeding the amperage of the stock fuse/wiring......... Nothing very "cool" about having that great big horn if it pops the fuse when you use it.

Hmmm, surprises me, as mine was a bare bones, zero option, 2.2 five speed, but has a full alarm, which sure didn't show as an option. In fact there were zero options listed on that car. Price was very attractive for a brand new car.
