I bet its from when you got stuck in your driveway.Did you have someone pushing?I got my prelude stuck in mud after one of the hurricanes a few years ago and had dents in the trunk lid from pushing.

This is a good guess. Maybe someone leaned against it and accidentally pushed it in. Some people complained that they put dents in their rear hatch by pushing on it to close it. I make sure I close it by pushing on the bowtie emblem in the middle of the chrome trim piece, not the hatch itself.

I think there was a post about getting dents from closing it from that bar.I close it by pushing from the license plate.

It seems like me and Navyflyer11 are the only two that have had the hatch bend at the corners of the beauty bar on this site so far.

I think I know what casued it now. The day of the huge snow storm. My car got stuck and my older brother was pushing on the back of the car. I belive he casued that indent. However he does not have super human strenght. I belive its cheaper metal on that rear hatch. The area around it feels very soft.

Well, not actually "cheaper" - the HHR body is made of four thin layers of metal sandwiched together with sound deadening material, making it strong, light, and quiet. Strong? Well, stronger than one layer! Needless to say, the metal can be easily deformed. In addition, the four layers can make repairs difficult as well. Go to your dealer and see if they can held you out with a PDR guy (Painless Dent Repair). If their price seems high - call your own PDR guy (phone book). That should get rid of the unsightly dent.

I only close my hatch with the handle in the hatch door, or the thick bottom edge of the hatch under the plate. (Just a tip.)
