I even call my pickup a car. Comes from when I had a dog, and I'd tell her to "get in the car." Didn't want to confuse her with vehicle classifications.

Nor have I. Although I think that CUV is very appropriate. Given the choices I picked SUV. CUV is a better choice for me.

When I was looking my Salesman called it a Crossover. My insurance company list it as an SUV. I go for the Crossover myself. No way you can take this car off road. Heck I had a tough time going up my neighbor's crappy 1/2 mile rutted gravel driveway the other day. Never had that prob. when I had a real SUV.

I just got a speeding ticket today and the officer wrote black SUV.
I sometimes refer to it as my car but when people ask to describe it, I call it a small SUV.
I always believed SUV is a body style and has nothing to do with the chassis it is mounted to.

Brought this one back from dead. I call it a wagon, but this news story made me think of this thread. They call it a van AND an SUV? I'd call it totalled :) Make up yer mind!

per wiki:

A sport utility vehicle (SUV) is a vehicle similar to a station wagon or estate car, usually equipped with four-wheel drive for on- or off-road ability. Some SUVs include the towing capacity of a pickup truck with the passenger-carrying space of a minivan or large sedan.
