It's weird, the Chevy site calls it a car but any dealer search lists it as an SUV.

GM calls it a SUV to help the truck/suv CAFE standard. But it physically is a tall Cobalt wagon.

Would mutant be classed under Other?

MFG are merging the classes all the time. Just look at the crossover market IT was Minivans and SUV's now it is Car Sedans and SUV's.

I have always liked Station Wagons and wondered why GM didn't call it what it is, a Station Wagon.

It depends on the parts book. some say truck, some say SUV. you just have to get a parts guy that owns one! I tick parts guys off all the time when I tell them how to look it up after they say they don't have it. I call mine a tiny truck.
Ain't CAFE a great idea?!?!

I describe it to others as an MPV, (multi purpose vehicle). GM used to call the Lumina (dustbuster) an MPV. I think that Mazda had one too. I classify it this way mainly because of what I use it for. I guess that for me, it really stems from the reconfigurable interior and the way that the rear of the roof is squared of to provide a great amount of cargo room for a vehicle of its size.

I see an MPV as a:
Car- for hauling people
Station wagon - for hauling sports gear
Truck - for hauling lumber/ladder

Chevy calls mine a panel van, but the state of Maryland considers it a truck. I just call it the SS.

In California they're titled as a "Utilty" which lumps them in with SUVs but I consider it a car-based tall wagon.
