I had a 2008 leaker and paid to have the plastic kit installed less than two years ago at maybe 105k ish.
Splicing in some stainless would have been sufficient if not better, but I left it up to the shop.
It was kind of a stupid design - an engraved invitation to galvanic corrosion. The heat shielding should have been attached only to the body, not touching the metal fuel line, or better, the fuel line should have been routed farther from the exhaust pipe.
Not expecting a recall at this last time but it would not shock me. A class-action seems possible.

I don't see anything happening with this issue...
First, it's a ten year or older car... cars rust.
Second, should there have been recalls and class action lawsuits for all those 60's and 70's cars that rusted just as bad or worse, brake and fuel lines rotting away, cars crashing and burning because of lack of maintenance? No, we just changed them when needed.
The world has gone lawsuit and recall crazy... Seriously. (not to get political, it's a statement, not a challenge for discussion)
