How many miles did your struts last
#11
Not sure where the sound is coming from.
Will update when the new left strut goes in as
to whether that was the problem or not.
123,300 and counting for both front and not a sound it seems
from the right front.~

I just replaced struts, sway bar links, and lower control arms on my 2008 LT. 125,000 miles. The clunk I had was from the sway bar links. I put the Moog replacement links on and all the noise was gone. There was an issue with one ball joint so I did the control arms and struts at the same time. Rides and drives much better. thanks,

I agree, Monroe quick struts on the front and KYB on the rear are what I when with. Monroe says to replace struts after 50,000 miles so I would get them local to be able to take advantage of the Life Time Warranty. Then replace them every 50,000 miles.
Parts like Monroe and Moog (and other US companies) are companies that do lots of research to improve over factory parts and do a great job at it. They stand behind what they make and have been around a long time. OEM parts are not always the best in many ways.

Struts are a critical part that affects handling. The car may not track right or pull to one side if they are worn. I could not get my HHR to stop pulling to the left until I replaced the struts. The alignment shop did no good, and they never bothered to check the struts for wear. Struts are easy to replace, just remember there is a right and left side to them.

With full knowledge that this is an old thread-
The FE3 shocks and struts are the only difference from the FE1 base “soft ride” suspension (as far as I can tell) and not only are they firmer, but they seem to last longer. The FE3 shocks on my 2008 were Sachs monotube. (My 2010 SS FE5 also has Sachs monotubes that look identical but care a different p/n, so probably different valving.)
I can confirm that Monroe “Quick-Strut” which include loaded springs for easy installation are satisfactory, but be sure to get the better black “OESpectrum” struts, not the blue “‘matics.” Just my opinion.
Also, KYB now seems to have “Strut-Plus” preloaded assemblies, which I wish were available when I last did struts.
All at Rock Auto, of course. Promo rebate on KYB right now.
