HVAC Fan Switch

Came out at lunch today and got in the car, turned the A/C on and...nothing! The light on the switch came on when the button was pushed, you could hear the A/C compressor kick on, but no air flow out of the vents. It doesn't blow air whether in A/C, Recirc, vent only, heat, or defrost. It worked earlier this morning, but just flat died at noon. When you get up to about 30 mph you can feel the cold air trickling out the vents.

This is a 2008 HHR 1LT with less than 3500 miles. I'm out of town and away from my regular dealer, who treats me pretty well and who I trust...all the fuses checked good, BTW.

Anyone else experience this anomaly??

Bad blower motor or blower motor resistor. Which could be an indication of water leakage from the butyl patch area. If it is under warranty they will fix the problem, but remind them to check for water leakage which is the number one cause of these parts needing replacement.

Thanks, I didn't think about that butyl patch leak. I was too busy cussing and checking fuses! I've checked the floorboard and nothing's getting wet inside the car. I'll remind my dealer of that TSB when I take it in.

Thanks again, ChevyMgr.

I believe that Brad is spot on. Same thing happened to a friend of mine from another HHR forum...and he had the butyl patch area leak a while back too on his 06 HHR. Dealer wanted $200-300 to fix, and he was able to get the part for less than $50 and installed it in about 15 minutes.

Note about repair cost - his car is no longer under warranty.

We have found that the volume of fluid leaking by the patch is not always the same, so not seeing water on your floorboard does not mean it's not leaking. So anyone with an HHR could have the leak and not know it.

So I guess I should ask where is and what is the butyl patch?

HVAC Fan Switch

Got the car to my local dealer this morning...repair order states "found open circuit at connector X210...necessary to repair open circuit at connector X210 on circuit #141..." if this could help anyone down the road. ChevyMgr, they even state they checked the blower resistor on the invoice...

Plus they washed and vacuumed the car for me and offered to put nitrogen in the tires, no charge(!), on a warranty call...that's one of the reasons why I like these guys!

Seriously. 6 YEARS later a post from Customer Service. I knew Chevrolet was backed up with the recall, but this is just comical.

P.S. Phat98 hasn't visited this site in 2 years.
