"i"

Living in the flat lands of Florida, I have used "I" gear a couple of times to see what it does. What I saw were higher speed shift points and no shifting into OD. With my auto and a gentle right foot, I'll be in OD at 38 mph. I can feel four distinct shifts when it goes into OD and drop to 1500 rpm.
In my cross country trips I just use D and let the transmission/computer decide when to down shift, which it will do when climbing hills, or high bridges, mostly just out of OD and sometimes down to third gear.

Also, I believe our trans is designated as a 4T45e. Unless GM has changed their "codings", the 4T indicates a 4 speed and the "e" as, "electronic".

No, 4th gear is OD ! Then the TQ locks up. The E is because the "commands" to shift gears come from the TCM, instead of the old fashioned way.
When I am driving gently I can feel the TQ lock up at around 40MPH.
I hate using my stupid phone for this stuff.

Ahhhhhh, I see what is happening. I'm using the same terms for TQ and OD. In other words, I was saying OD for the TQ.
So, the trans is a 4 speed NOT including the TQ?
Just for comparison sake, mine locks up at exactly 44 MPH.

Yes, but.... TorqueConvertor lock is not a gear, it just turns the trans into a "standard" transmission, until that clutch is released and the TC can freewheel again.
OOPS. I see that I have been typing a Q when I mean to be typing a C., Sorry for confusing everybody.:embarrassed:
Basically there is a clutch, but it only controls the TC for better MPG while at cruising speed.

guess I should have said I feel it shifting into only 3 gears, not 3 shifts. Maybe you all could help me figure out things using the tach.
So how many rpm's should it be turning at 60 mph if it's in a fourth gear? (everything stock)
