I only take it up to about 60 or 70 mph, but that is plenty. It helps when you need to pass slow people (anyone who is not me) If you have the auto tranny and have not tried it yet, I strongly urge you to do so. Exhillerating! The most fun is on windy roads!

Right, it stops the converter from locking up. The HHR's auto is really cool - I've had a ton of autos and like it the best. Around town you can cruise (fast), about 45-50 and then "lightfoot it" and the converter will lock up. The thing pulls like an ape right above idle when this happens! I love it!!!

dumb question #2: so there's no harm to shifting (from D to I or vice versa)while in motion (foot not on the throttle)? Or do you have to come to a complete stop?

No problem; you want to stay away from "R" while you're moving forward though...

"P" is never good either!
