I got hit today....Think they will total it?

Well....
This person came across 3 lanes and didnt see me and end up hitting me in the Left rear. Spun me around 180 deg and I hit the curb.

The Left rear tire popped, bent the rim and axle. Obviouse damage to rear skin. Put a hole in the rear bumper.

The right side rear tire has a bubble in the side wall from hitting the curb. The lower rocker panel was ripped off, and two dents in the front and rear door seam where they meet.

Air bag didnt go off. I dont have side bags. its a LT1.

2 things that worry me is the bent rear axle. It is bent about 4" off from center. The car is not driveable.
The other thing is the right aft body line nolonger follows the front. It is about 1/4" lower now. As if the whole back has rotated clockwise?

I was planning on keeping this after I paid it off. But if they bondo it, Its goodbye! Its a 2007 I owe $10,500 with 16k miles and I have Gieco.

So what do you think. Salvage or totalled ?

Thanks.
Craig~

I think they will Fix it. Depends on how close to that Total mark it gets. Since you only owe 10k.

Either way, it's not going to be drivable for a while. Rear axles are evidently in very short supply.

Post whenever you get an estimate. I'm going to guess at least 5K.

if damage $ = 1/2 of vehicle wholesale value they may Total it, bad news for you if wholesale is 8K and street value is the same then you may have to sue the guilty party for your loss you still owe over 10k they pay 8 you pay the ballance. I think they fix and you sell and buy a SS )

I got t-boned in my '81 VW Scirocco in that exact spot. Broke the rim and bent the rear axle along with a good amount of rear quarter damage. The car was 3 years old and it was fixed...so good you never could tell it had been damaged.

Im guessing $6K to fix it. You would be surprised at what they will fix. I totalled my 2003 Cavalier, but that was front end damage which is usually more money.

I would expect fixed.

They will replace the door, quarter, rear axle and bumper on.

The biggest thing is they will want to use used parts and you may have to fight the Geecko to put on new parts.

Work with the body shop on this as they can at time talk them into using new parts.

Also the frame racks today can move mountains. IF your roof has no bends or dips the chassie is most likely not off much.

Your car does not appear to be as damaged as it looks. But untill they get it appart it is hard to tell. The HHR can take a beating and keep on truckin.
