I need an opinion - 2.2 or 2.4?

I've decided on everything except the actual engine. I know everyone has an opinion... but is getting the 2.4 worth the expense of the premium gas? I've driven the 2.2 for a week and it was great. Do I need the 2.4?
TIA

Go with the 2.4, even with that engine the power is modest. I can't imagine what the 2.2 is like.

Well, there are advantages in having a 2.4 engine vs. 2.2......1 being faster pick up, and more passing power, I have the 2.4 engine on Wheelie, and it feels POWERFUL!

As for gas, Wheelie accepts me putting PLUS grade fuel...(the middle grade), I find that is a more comfortable gas choice, but that is just my opinion

You don't need to use premium gas in the 2.4.

I run 87 octane gas in mine and have no problems at all.

2.4 all the way.
I still don't really understand why Chevy markets the HHR with two such similar powerplants? They both get essentially the same MPG and the 2.4 has Variable Valve timing, which from all accounts is a good thing.
I guess it is so that there appears to be real options, though there really is not. A real difference would be between either of them and a turbo version. Then there would be real choice.
Go 2.4 and have a great time. The HHR is one cool car!

Does everyone know that the 2007 has a little higher hp with both engines than the 2006 did?

My 2.2 does me fine. No passing or any other problems. With the auto I gear, who needs to spend the extra $$? I wouldn't.

They calculated the hp differently or something, same engines, just different #`s.

Before I bought my HHR I rented both a 2.2 and a 2.4. Around town I found little difference between the two. On the highway there is more passing power when you really put your foot down with the 2.4 and seems to have a bit more grunt on takeoff.

When it came down to it, the HHR I wanted had the 2.2 and it is fine for me. I have no problem cruising at 80 or getting up to speed.....most 4 bangers are not going to be very fast off the line unless you really put your foot into it anyways and the HHR is no exception that is for sure
