General HHR Discuss anything related to the Chevy HHR that doesnt seem to fit into the more specific categories below.

I need an opinion - 2.2 or 2.4?

Does anyone know when the governor kicks in?
Don't know exactly when it slows down , but I know my 2.2 does 115mph and there seemed to be some more but out of time and space , and that's all stock only mods so far are tint and dice . My best guess would be about 117-118 .
BTW I like the way your wife screams

In drive it stops somewhere around 108 mph, then put the tranny in "I" gear and kick it..

Like Tom said, it kicks in around 108-110 but a shift to I drive disables it.

I've had Bob up to about 121, this was before I had the Tune Time tune. Since then I've had it to 115 and the rpm's were only about 5500. I was ready to test the limits, but I think it easily had another 15-20 mph out of it. And it was riding just as smooth as could be.

Will have to work around days off/work schedule. I have a really strange schedule! lol But... I may be making a trip to Bay City in the near future and if so, I'll give a holler!

It's all really a matter of what your budget will allow you to spend too. To me...the small amount of added power just didn't seem to be worth it for the extra $1000 extra or whatever it is. JMHO
According to my window sticker, the 2.4 engine was a $650 option, not $1000. There are no bolt-ons you can throw at the 2.2 engine for less than $650 that'll give you the same power and efficiency as the 2.4. Put another way, the 2.4 engine is also only about $11 more a month than the 2.2.

The CGS robs power because it sucks in hot air from the engine, but it does look and sound cooler. If that's worth $250 to you, great, but it's almost 40% of the price of the engine upgrade for a questionable "power-adder". The IMCO muffler is also just that--a muffler that sounds louder than stock. I personally don't understand the logic in replacing a full stainless stock muffler with a galvanized steel aftermarket cheapo, but that's just me.

Her 2.2/5speed
0-60=8.51
1/4=16.63
1/4 MPH=84.95

Your 2.4/auto
0-60=8.37
1/4=16.35
1/4 MPH=85.2

Oh yea, you got a rocket there.....

Okay, so what you're saying is that when the limiter stops you from going faster, all you need to do is put it in "I" drive and it'll disable the limiter, thus allowing you to go faster than 110?

Faster IS faster Especially when you gotta pass on these two-lane highways down here and you need that 3,500 RPM VVT surge.

Besides, I've got the bigger exhaust tip--STOCK!

Like I said, you can throw $650 worth of parts at the 2.2 engine and you still won't get the same power and efficiency of the 2.4. I'm getting 30 MPG at 70-80 mph and haven't seen any 2.2 owners claiming that yet.

BTW, in fairness, I have driven a 2.2 HHR and ION many times when I was selling cars. The big difference I noticed is not in overall acceleration, but in passing acceleration. The 2.4 just has the grunt when you need it!

Actually I'm avg around 32-33 mpg in my 2.2 but in fairness most of my driving is pure highway but I'm around 70-80 also

That is the one thing that I did notice when I rented a 2.4...around town it was hard for me to see any difference but when you needed passing power the 2.4 gives that extra oommmph..if there was 2.4 around that had the options I wanted I may have bit but the 2.2 does just fine
