Installation under hood light

Hi I have a project in hand and is to install a bulb under the hood to check the engine in case need it at night, so somebody can give any idea what kind of the bulb I can I use for that? I need a switch to turn on and off when close the hood will be off the light and when open the hood has to turn on the light or can be manual to let me do that by myself.

You can buy a under hood light kit. My Truck did not come with one but did have the wiring harness for it ! About 20$
You would need a hot and ground and a fused hot leg !
Funny thing is I was just thinking about doing that on my HHR as I have a extra light kit!
SO hopefully the gear heads pop in with better advice, But i was thinking of a Fused Hot leg from the battery and ground to frame ! Not sure if there is a better way ! FYI I would also go with a LED Bulb WAY better lighting!
Found these on

I saw other video using leds strips, installing almost close to the radiator underhood with 3m strips, so but the video guy don't show where buy that kind of led strips, in our case with HHR I don't know if connecting to the wire positive in the positive in the front car and the negative connected to the chassis will work I don't know, because the battery for HHR is in the back, but the led strips will work better with better illumination.so if you know where buy the led strips let me know, ok? thanks

Ebay, Amazon, Any of the Chinese ebay clones. Pretty darn easy with a internet connection.

My favorite one was one on my 1991 silverado. It had a retractable cord and could use it like a flashlight.

My current underhood light is a flashlight I keep in the glove box of every vehicle.

in the case of the HHR the battery is in the back, so can I connect to the cable positive in the positive front and the negative cable to the chassis?
